This is one of the shadiest things you will see on the road. After a massive wreck where the front axle was torn apart, these guys aren’t checking the load or calling a tow—they are busy peeling off the company name and US DOT numbers.
In the industry, we call this a “Chameleon Carrier” move. If the police report doesn’t link the VIN to the MC number immediately, maybe they think they can save their safety rating? Or maybe that truck wasn’t supposed to be there in the first place.
