Sixty seconds with Virtua Racing.

Sega’s 1992 arcade machine is the one that changed what a racing game looked like. Flat-shaded polygons instead of scaled sprites, a proper 3D track you could see the shape of, and four camera angles because nobody had worked out yet which one people would want. It ran on the Model 1 board and it cost a fortune, and every polygon racer that followed — Daytona, Ridge Racer, the lot — is standing on it. Thirty-odd years on, the thing that still lands is how readable it is at speed.
