A flight over the moraine of the glacier reveals a vast field of uneven rock mass and glacier debris consisting of stones, small green emerald lakes, black icy walls and crevasses blocked off by boulders and stones. A very rough and uneven – an almost inhospitable terrain, and yet the starting point of fabulous high altitude countryside in the Uttarakhand mountains.
