When we are looking critically at a forecast it is important to understand that forecasts are made for a wide area. This resolution introduces significant spatial variability. There is a big difference in avalanche forecasting for a single mountain, drainage or a slope vs 100’s of square km. So when you are questioning why it is considerable look at the bigger picture vs the small area you may be looking at!
