Caught on camera: Snowmobilers escape avalanche in Colorado backcountry Saturday

An avalanche that briefly trapped at least three people on Saturday afternoon was caught on video.

The slide happened on Gravel Mountain near Grand Lake just before 2:30 p.m. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center said that three or four people were caught in the avalanche, but were able to get out on their own or with the help of bystanders. It is believed to have been triggered by a snowmobile.

Cell phone video taken from just to the side of where the slide happened, shows several snowmobilers riding in the area just before the avalanche starts. You can see at least one person with an inflatable safety bag slide part way down the slope and a snowmobile without any one on it continue down the mountain a short distance.
