‘DOGE-like’ committee could alleviate Australian economic ‘bloat’

IPA Senior Fellow and Chief Economist Adam Creighton discusses the concerns surrounding the DOGE committee and suggests Australia’s “unproductive” spending could be targeted.

“I don’t think it’ll shock the economy. There’s plenty of evidence in the past from other countries that steep spending cuts do not cause a recession and, in fact, can encourage economic growth,” Mr Creighton said.

“It seems eminently reasonable to me that the US government could shave 15 per cent off its spending without really affecting services.

“There is extraordinary bloat in every government, including in Australia’s, and we should have some sort of DOGE-like committee here”.
